PTSD, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, is caused by overwhelming trauma that is experienced directly or indirectly and leads to emotional constriction of intrusive symptoms. These symptoms can include nightmares, flashbacks, triggered memories, increased fear, being easily startled, and more. These symptoms can occur directly after the trauma is experienced and will last for months, sometimes, years, after the traumatic incident occurs.
